FSSAI Classification — Food for Special Dietary Use (FSDU)
NeuMeal products are officially classified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the category of "Meal Replacer for Weight Control" — a sub-category of Food for Special Dietary Use (FSDU).
This is not a general health supplement classification. FSDU meal replacers are held to a higher regulatory standard, with specific requirements around:
- Macronutrient composition per serving
- Caloric range per meal replacement
- Energy contribution specifications from macronutrients
- Protein, Fat and Fibre quality and quantity compliances

What the FSDU Classification Means for You
Fewer than 5% of products sold in India for weight management carry this specific FSSAI classification. Most protein shakes, health drinks, and meal-like supplements are registered as Health Supplements — a category that does not permit weight loss claims on the label, because the formulation is not evaluated for that purpose.
NeuMeal is formulated and approved specifically as a meal replacement for weight control. That means:
